Welcome to Wellsway School, a sixth form that sets high standards in both academic achievement and student welfare. We are proud of the inclusive and supportive culture in which our students thrive. With a rich and varied curriculum, excellent extra-curricular opportunities and enjoying a spacious site that offers great facilities, Wellsway School is the ideal place for you to take your education and development to the next level.
A major part of sixth form life are the structures and support we put in place to help you grow and achieve to your fullest potential. Our experienced and caring team provides support that is second to none; challenging, encouraging and nurturing you to be the best you can while helping you maintain a sense of perspective, plan for your future and have a lot of fun along the way.
Our aim is to help you to acquire the skills, qualifications and experiences that will enable you to progress to the next stage in your life journey, whether that’s employment, apprenticeship, university or gap year. We have high expectations of both ourselves and you, and a long record of success in helping our students to fulfil their ambitions, whatever they may be. Joining us, you will benefit from access to a wide range of bespoke support programmes to help you decide upon and work towards your goals; from enrichment support to both broaden your horizons and ensure you have the ‘soft skills’ needed post-18, to our bespoke support programmes for those targeting Higher Apprenticeships, medicine, Oxbridge or highly competitive courses in the Russell Group.
Alongside the staff team, Wellsway Sixth Form has an incredibly strong and supportive student body. Led by the Head Students and a team of Officers and Ambassadors, the student body gives you a genuine say in how the sixth form is run. from designing the Common Room to bringing sixth forms across the Futura Learning Partnership together through the student run Icebreaker parties.
We are large enough to offer a broad range of courses and extra-curricular opportunities, yet small enough to be personal and individually supportive. We are a large and growing Sixth Form that gives students the opportunities to make new friendships and strengthen old ones. We believe Wellsway School is the perfect environment for students who want to excel, and to have a great time doing so.
IKB Academy – a new and innovative approach to education for students in Years 10 – 13
“Education for the 21st Century” has been discussed for many years and IKB will deliver this vision and optimism for students, parents and staff through:
The highest quality academic and vocational teaching
-A focus on Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths taught in new and specialist facilities
-A supportive and caring environment that meets your needs and values your individuality
-A creative approach to learning, through employer-based projects and innovative teaching methods
-The opportunity to work closely with key local employers through work experience, shadowing and coaching.
-A program of personal coaching for all students
We are an inclusive school catering for the individual needs of all of our students with an intentionally small intake, where professional relationships can really make a difference to nurture as well as challenge. We will value the contribution made by all of our students and seek to create an atmosphere of trust and positivity where we can all enjoy and achieve great things together.
IKB is an exciting option for students in Yr 10 and 12 (from September 2015), but it is not an easy option and on entering IKB we will raise student aspirations, so, on leaving, they will realise these aspirations competing with the best for university places, apprenticeships, work or training in their chosen field.
Our students study in one of the following pathways:
Science/Medicine, Design Engineering, Digital Engineering, Architecture and the Built Environment
As an inclusive school, we welcome applications from all students with an interest and passion for these subjects and can arrange meetings to discuss your options with you. Please use the application form on this website or the contact details below to arrange a visit.
It is the intention of everyone involved in delivering the Sixth Form provision at the Sir Bernard Lovell Academy that your study should be an enjoyable and worthwhile experience, not only in academic and vocational achievement but in the continued development of you as an individual.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated modern sixth form centre, exclusively for the use of Sixth Form students. This excellent provision will be also supported by our partnership with the other centres within the Futura Sixth to enhance the choice of courses and enrichment activities available.
Wherever you look you will see that ‘learning pays’. Qualifications and experiences are increasingly necessary for employment in all walks of life. Within the sixth form centre we have designed an exciting and broad Sixth Form curriculum to enable you to equip yourself for employment, higher education and life.
At the Sir Bernard Lovell Academy you will be taught by experienced teachers who know you and your preferred way of working. You will be assigned a personal tutor who will guide and support you through your studies, including your applications to university, apprenticeship or employment. This will be supported by regular reports to parents highlighting your areas of success and areas for further development.
I hope that you will join us by continuing your studies in the Sixth Form centre at the Sir Bernard Lovell Academy.
